Joining WebRing

I have been a member of WebRing since 2005.

After converting my site to a blog I no longer had a code on the site.

Logged in today, grabbed some some codes and pasted it on the home page and on another page that I track my linking activities.

Unsuccessful

After 2 hours, I still get this message:

Missing SSNB Code

Thanks for clicking. The WebRing navigation code on the page you were visiting appears to be out of order. It is registered as follows:
WebRing User ID: starising
U#: makewebsite
URL: http://www.starising.com/index.html

If this is your page then is one of the following applicable?

Perhaps you have another User ID and have not yet updated your code? If so, log in to your other account, check to see what code should be on your page and edit your page accordingly. The information will on be your View Web sites page.

  • Perhaps you already have other code on the page and this is just left over from the old Yahoo system? If so, simply delete the obsolete code from your page and the message will no longer display on your page.
  • Perhaps you do not yet have a WebRing User ID and this is old yahoo code? If so, you should sign up for a WebRing User ID here and get your page updated in the new (Yahoo free) WebRing system.
  • I’m lost. I thought I was a part of WebRing but now I’m confused. No problem, first you should browse WebRing Navigation Help. You may very well find an answer to your problems/questions here. If that does prove useful then contact Help/Support and provide us with the URL of the page, and anything else you know about your WebRing site(s) and we’ll lend you a hand.

Few years ago, I didn’t even understand HTML and I could set it up successful.

This time, after 2 hours, I still can’t get it right.

I gave up. I’ll look for something else.

Rejected by BlogCatalog

My application to BlogCatalog was declined; reason?

Thank you for submitting your blog Make Your Own Website (http://starising.net/) to BlogCatalog.
Unfortunately upon reviewing your blog we are unable to grant it access to the directory.
Your blog was declined for the following reason:
* The URL you submitted is not a blog.

That can’t be. This site is definitely a blog.

I made another submission, rejected again, reasons:

Thank you for submitting your blog Make Your Own Website (http://starising.net/) to BlogCatalog.
Unfortunately upon reviewing your blog we are unable to grant it access to the directory.
The most common reasons for not getting into Blog Catalog are:

  • We could not verify ownership of your blog. A link back, widget or meta-tag is required to verify site ownership. visit: http://www.blogcatalog.com/buttons for more information.
  • The URL you submitted is not a blog.
  • The URL you submitted is solely for commercial purposes, or is suspected to be spam.
  • Your blog is brand new and/or doesn’t have enough content to make it truly valuable. If this is the case, please resubmit after you have made more postings.
  • Your blog contains pornographic material.
  • At the time of review your blog was unavailable or there was a typo in your submission URL. Please make sure the URL submitted is correct and accessible

If you believe this to be a mistake, you can login to Blog Catalog ( http://www.blogcatalog.com/blogs/manage_blog.html ) and change anything which may have caused it to get declined. After updating your blog, it will be put back into the submission queue.

This only 2 reasons I could agreed to are:

  1. Your blog is brand new and/or doesn’t have enough content to make it truly valuable.
If this is the case, please resubmit after you have made more postings.
  2. At the time of review your blog was unavailable or there was a typo in your submission URL.
Please make sure the URL submitted is correct and accessible

Site not accessible at time of verification is possible and common. I only need to submit for the 3rd time.

However, not having enough content is more likely to be the reason..
I accept this.

What I need to do is to re-submit after 30 posting or so.

So meanwhile, I’ll keep writing – one every other day, and continue to submit to other blog directories..

New Kid On The Blog

This is the fourth posting of this blog.

2 of the 3 previous posts appeared under the domain search but not under the title search in Google, Yahoo and Bing.

In fact they appeared in Google an hour after publishing the post.

If you are using the regular WordPress, it should even be faster.
I had postings on standard WordPress that were captured by Google within 15 minutes.

I am using WPMU and it’s much slower. It usually takes up to an hour.
I am not complaining on that.

All pages under the web have yet to show up.

Linking Strategy

The lesson here – If it’s a new website or a website on a new domain, it may take some time to be crawled.

Since the search engines come to the blog first though I created the web earlier, the strategy is to link the web from the blog.
This may speed up the process.
Also need to create a RSS file for the website.

While writing this, I suddenly remembered I have an unattended blog over at WordPress.com.

New website, new blog, new postings – with everything being equal – the weight should be on a more popular domain – WordPress.com.

Time to go over and do some postings at starising.wordpress.com
